Prince Harry may be one of the hottest royals [1] in the world, but the thing we love most about him isn't his looks, it's his heart of gold. On Thursday, the royal let his emotions take over while greeting former servicemen at a special London performance of Bat Out of Hell — The Musical. Harry attended on behalf of his Invictus Games Foundation [2], and he shared an especially sweet moment with a woman named Nerys Pearce when he leaned over and hugged her. In 2008, Nerys — who is an Invictus Games athlete [3] and a veteran — was involved in a motorbike accident that left her paralysed from the waist down.
Royal protocol [4] states that greetings should never go beyond a handshake, but Harry clearly knows that some rules are meant to be broken. Besides, Queen Elizabeth II apparently thinks the rules are "rubbish" [5] anyway.
Following the show, Harry took the stage and gave a speech, thanking the cast and the audience. "You have all played a part in making sure that we can continue the work that the Invictus Games Foundation do by convening the Nations and ensuring that the Invictus Games continues as a platform for people all over the world," Harry said.
The veterans were invited by the foundation as a thank you for their years of service and support. Earlier this year, Bat Out of Hell announced a partnership with the charity [6], which uses sports to help aid the physical, psychological, and social recovery of active-duty soldiers and veterans. The partnership involves private tours and family theatre workshops for children and family members of serving or ex-service personnel. Sadly, Meghan didn't join Harry this time around, but they did watch Hamilton [7] together this past August.
