Beatles Legend Ringo Starr Receives a Special Honour — and New Title — From Prince William
Following his St. Patrick's Day celebration with the Duchess of Cambridge over the weekend, Prince William got back to business when he hosted the Investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday. The knighting ceremony — which recognises people around the world who have made special contributions to society — honoured Beatles drummer Ringo Starr (whose real name is Richard Starkey), as well as author Michael Morpurgo, rugby player Sam Warburton, author Jilly Cooper, and Sheffield Council's Anne Shaw.
After receiving the honour from William, the former Beatle joked that he would wear the insignia "at breakfast." As for his new "sir" title, the musician joked, "It's new, and I don't know how to use it properly. But I expect you to use it."
Ringo was recognised for his contributions to the music industry after working alongside his Beatles bandmates Paul McCartney, John Lennon, and George Harrison for many years. "It's an honour and a pleasure to be considered and acknowledged for my music and my charity work, both of which I love," Ringo said of the honour in December. Fun fact: Paul was also knighted by Queen Elizabeth II back in March 1997.
