Princess Eugenie Scoliosis Surgery Photos July 2018

Princess Eugenie's Emotional Scoliosis Story Will Make You Reconsider What's Important in Life

Saturday marked Scoliosis Awareness Day, and Princess Eugenie celebrated by opening up about her own scoliosis diagnosis as a child. The 28-year-old royal shared two Instagram photos of her X-rays and thanked "the incredible staff at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital who work tirelessly to save lives and make people better." In addition to her Instagram album, Eugenie also shared her emotional story on The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust's charity website.

"In 2002, when I was 12 years old, I was diagnosed with scoliosis (curvature of the spine), and told that I would need corrective surgery. This was, of course, a scary prospect for a 12-year-old; I can still vividly remember how nervous I felt in the days and weeks before the operation," she wrote. "My back problems were a huge part of my life, as they would be for any 12-year-old. Children can look at me now and know that the operation works. I'm living proof of the ways in which the hospital can change people's lives."

Eugenie has been patron of the Redevelopment Appeal, a fundraising campaign for newer facilities and equipment for RNOH, since 2012, and her latest contribution includes the hospital's new state-of-the-art facility called the Princess Eugenie House.
