Today, in our ongoing series "Queen Elizabeth II holds things in unexpected ways," the Queen was unexpectedly handed a big pink ball as she greeted some of Windsor's elderly residents at the King George VI Day Centre. They appeared to be taking part in an exercise class, but the queen didn't seem very keen to join in. She gave the ball a slightly awkward shake before quickly handing it back with a grin . . . and who can blame her? One has to keep one's purple coat looking spotless, after all! You can see the unintentionally funny moment in a slideshow shared by the Royal Family on Instagram; it's the second image along.

While the younger members of the royal family have a reputation for getting involved in sports, the 91-year-old monarch has definitely earned her right to simply stand back and observe. Besides, when it comes to activity, she much prefers horse riding to ball games!
