Rihanna [2] is speaking out after Snapchat posted an incredibly insensitive ad about domestic abuse and her volatile relationship with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown [3]. The ad, which was posted earlier this week, invited users to play a game called "Would You Rather?" with the choices asking if they would "Slap Rihanna [4]" or "Punch Chris Brown [5]." Immediately, social media users voiced their disgust [6] with the platform's insensitivity, wondering what the hell the developers were thinking.

Not only did the "game" try to make a joke out of one person's traumatic experience, but it also appeared to promote domestic violence in an inexcusable way. After users took to Twitter to condemn the platform [7] for this horrible advertisement, the ad was removed and Snapchat released a statement to the BBC.

"The advert was reviewed and approved in error, as it violates our advertising guidelines," the statement reads [8]. "We immediately removed the ad last weekend, once we became aware. We are sorry that this happened."

Well, Snapchat, Rihanna herself has asked that you "throw the whole app-oligy away," as she released her own remarks on her Instagram Story [9] on Thursday afternoon, seen below. "You spent money to animate something that would intentionally bring shame to DV victims and made a joke of it!!! This isn't about my personal feelings, cause I don't have much of them . . . but all the women, children, and men that have been victims of DV in the past and especially the ones who haven't made it out yet . . . you let us down! Shame on you!"

Back in 2009, after they'd been dating for around a year, Chris was arrested for domestic violence and felony battery [10] after physically assaulting Rihanna. The incident occurred on the night before the Grammys after Rihanna allegedly found text messages from another woman on his phone. It's been nine years, and while Rihanna said in an interview with Diane Sawyer [11] at the time that she "doesn't hate him at all," it is never acceptable to downplay this incident in the form of a game.
