We never give up hope that the Spice Girls will reform as a five-piece [1], making all of our girl power dreams come true. But, until they do, we've got the Spice exhibition [2] to get excited about (A go on the Spice Bus? Yes please!). But if you're unable to make it to the exhibition, we've compiled a round-up of the spiciest locations around the country for all you fans of Ginger, Posh, Baby, Sporty, and Scary. Take a scroll through our gallery and get nostalgic [3] about all of the best bits of The Spice Girls and their incredible British pop legacy, then plan your own Girl Power tour.
Danceworks, Mayfair
"WANTED: R.U. 18–23 with the ability to sing/dance? R.U. streetwise, outgoing, ambitious, and dedicated?" This was where it all began. When Heart Management Ltd placed an ad for an open audition in The Stage, hundreds of wannabes turned up at Danceworks, 16 Balderton Street, London. You can still do dance classes there, and who knows, maybe you'll become part of the next big girl group?
Strongroom Studios
Fast-forward a year later and our favourite girls recorded "Wannabe" at Strongroom Studios on Curtain Road in Shoreditch, London.
The Renaissance Hotel
Want the zig-a-zig-ah experience for yourself? Book yourself into The Renaissance Hotel by Kings Cross St. Pancras station in North London. The swanky hotel has had a makeover since the video for "Wannabe" was recorded here, but you'll still recognise the famous venue. The stairs are supposed to be for residents only, but they're pretty understanding about fans wanting to get a snap of themselves doing their best Scary Spice.
Wannabe
"Wannabe" had sold over 7 million copies worldwide by the end of 1997. And yes, we do still really really really wanna . . .
Tower Bridge
Tower Bridge has featured in a lot of our favourite films, but it's also the backdrop for Spice Girls hit "2 Become 1." Hands up if you had a coat that looked exactly like the one Baby Spice wears.
2 Become 1
There's a surprising reference to safe sex in "2 Become 1" that we totally missed when we were 9.
Smithfield Market
Smithfield meat market is one of the many London locations that pops up in the film Spice World. You can visit the market, but bear in mind if you want to buy some sausages you'll have to wait until 2 a.m. when it officially opens.
Spice World
No, it was probably never going to win any Oscars, but we love it anyway.
Broadgate Circus
Who knew that the glamour of Broadgate Circus, as seen above in all its glory, could double for Milan in Spice World? That's what filming on a budget gets you. It's uncanny.
The Royal Albert Hall
One film location that didn't get a cheap stand-in was the Royal Albert Hall, where Posh, Baby, Scary, Sporty and Ginger are performing live in the film.
Spice Up Your Life
Fiction became fact when The Spice Girls took to the stage at the Royal Albert Hall in 1997.
Watford
Geri Haliwell, who had her own successful solo pop career after she decided to leave The Greatest Girl Group of All Time, actually grew up in Watford, in North London.
Finchley
Emma Bunton grew up in Finchley in North London. Before she became Baby Spice, she also starred in the most famous fictional London show, playing a mugger in Eastenders.
Burley
Before the bright lights of London tempted her south, Mel B [4] lived in Burley in Leeds. She also had a stint as a dancer in Blackpool before the Spice Girls took off.
Widnes
Mel C, aka Sporty Spice, grew up in Widnes in Cheshire before she moved to South London to head to the Doreen Bird College of Performing Arts.
Laine Theatre Arts
Before she was Posh, way before she was Victoria Beckham [5], our Vic was actually Victoria Adams, and she studied at Laine Theatre Arts in Epsom, Surrey.
Beckingham Palace
If there was ever a celebrity house that captured the attention of the general public, it was Beckingham Palace (formerly Rowneybury House) in Buckinghamshire, the massive pile of bricks that Posh 'n' Becks bought before moving stateside. They no longer own the country mansion, but it's still a big part of the Spice Girls story.
Carnew Street
The infamous video for "Stop" (which we still know all the dance moves to), was filmed in Dublin in Carnew Street. Houses go for an absolute song on this street now [6]. If you don't mind the fans popping up every day, you could own a piece of pop history.
Stop
Stop was one of the most critically acclaimed Spice Girls hits. We are yet again impressed with the huge array of coats.
Luttrellstown Castle
Another Dublin spot, this time the venue for Victoria and David's wedding. The Beckhams tied the knot at Luttrellstown Castle in 1999, and it was one of the most hotly-anticipated celebrity wedding that there has ever been.
Island Harbour Marina
The infamous Spice bus has actually been making an appearance outside the Spice Up exhibition [7] venue, but it's usually found on the Isle of Wight by Island Harbour Marina.
Piccadilly Theatre
Viva Forever! wasn't just a hit Spice Girls song (it was their 7th number one), it was also a hit jukebox musical written by Jennifer Saunders, which was staged at London's Piccadilly Theatre.
Viva Forever!
Was the musical as good as the real thing? You decide.
Mentmore Towers
Mentmore Towers in Buckinghamshire has been in Inspector Morse and a Roxy Music video. It was also the location for the Spice Girls farewell video, "Goodbye."
Goodbye
Girl power forever.
