Terry Crews Testified Before the Senate About Sexual Assault, and Everyone Needs to Hear His Message

Terry Crews has been open about his experience with sexual assault in Hollywood, and on Wednesday, the 49-year-old actor appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington DC to advocate for change. Terry testified to support the Survivors' Bill of Rights, which establishes rights for survivors of sexual assault, in hope of "creating additional civil rights protections for survivors across the nation."

In his testimony, Terry spoke about how former WME agent Adam Venit once groped his genitals in front of his wife at a party, and because he filed a civil suit, an Expendables 4 producer recently threatened to drop him from the film if he did not withdraw it. "Abusers protect abusers — and this is one thing I had to decide, whether I was going to draw the line on. Am I going to be a part of this or am I gonna take a stand, and there are projects I had to turn down," Terry explained.

Terry was one of three people who were asked to testify. "What happened to me has happened to many, many other men in Hollywood, and since I came forward with my story, I have had thousands and thousands of men come to me and say, 'Me too, this is my story. But I did not have the confidence, or I did not feel safe enough, to come out,'" Terry said. "Because what happens is you get blacklisted, your career is in danger — after that, no one wants to work with you." Watch Terry's powerful testimony above.
