The Queen's Green Planet Proves That We Need to See Queen Elizabeth On TV More Often

17/04/2018 - 11:05 AM

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II (L) reacts as she talks with television presenter David Attenborough during an event at Buckingham Palace in central London on November 15, 2016, to showcase forestry projects that have been dedicated to the new conservation initiative - The Queen's Commonwealth Canopy

As soon as we saw the trailer [1] for ITV's The Queen's Green Planet, we knew that it was going to be wonderful. The one-hour documentary celebrates the conservation work that Queen Elizabeth II is doing with her Commonwealth Canopy, a network of forest conservation projects across the Commonwealth. Joining her good friend Sir David Attenborough for a walk around the gardens of Buckingham Palace, the Queen discusses trees, giggles over an oddly-placed sundial, makes a joke about Donald Trump [2], and discusses the "health and safety" issues surrounding conkers. Unsurprisingly, the people of Twitter quickly got to work, plotting future TV presenting gigs for the witty nonagenarian duo, calling for old-school conker matches across the country, and delighting in the Britishness of the whole thing. Read on for some of the best reactions.

Can we have a full series of the Queen and David Attenborough doing really mundane things and having a natter. Like wandering around a museum, doing the big shop at Waitrose, anything really. So good together. #QueensGreenPlanet [3]

2018 has been full of iconic moments from the Queen. We had her manhandling and shaking the crown jewels, fuming over conkers and laughing about sundials. #TheQueensGreenPlanet [5]

Queen Liz fuming that people don't play conkers anymore because of health & safety is giving me life #TheQueensGreenPlanet [11]

The Queen and David Attenborough need to have their own regular show together where they just walk around gardens and forests chatting together and appreciating their surroundings. #QueensGreenPlanet [13]

How surreal is this #QueensGreenPlanet [15] show? Its a bit like a home video show.
And doesnt David Attenborough look like he is the Queen's husband haha. Thry look like a proper couple

I didn't know I needed an hour long episode of the Queen talking about conkers but I definitely did #QueensGreenPlanet [17]

There we go. Controversial. The Queen isn't supposed to get involved in politics. But she's stuck her flag In the ground and is PRO-Conkers. The fall out from this could be epic #QueensGreenPlanet [19]

Name a more iconic duo.

I'll wait. #TheQueensGreenPlanet [21] pic.twitter.com/okL0NitjtW [22]

I just want The Queen and David Attenborough to make a spin off of this show where they travel the Commonwealth and solve plant related crime in the style of Murder She Wrote...or....Murder One Wrote #TheQueensGreenPlanet [24]

— Matt Sheriff (@i71Sheriff) April 16, 2018 [25]

This needs a spinoff show wherein Attenborough and Her Maj drive about solving all manner of tree-related crimes. #thequeensgreenplanet [26]

They're talking about trees but this could literally be a 16 hour documentary about a dropped kebab in Grimsby and I'd still watch it. #DreamTeam [28] #TheQueensGreenPlanet [29] https://t.co/Kw9OdYIBnw [30]

The Queen's Green Planet is already amazing. The Queen and David Attenborough wandering around discussing trees, the corgis' hatred of conkers and Kate and Wills catching salmon.

Pure British dreaminess.

Watching #QueensGreenPlanet [34] is like watching grandparents looking round a garden. Bit like my dad does & comments on the weeding I haven't done 🙄

The Queen saying 'we won't look at that one because it doesn't seem to be doing very much' is my mum when people ask her what I'm doing with life #QueensGreenPlanet [36]

Attenborough and the Queen is the power couple this world is missing...#itv [38] #QueensGreenPlanet [39]
