From earning a BAFTA nomination for his role on the "USS Callister [1]" episode of Black Mirror [2], to starring in HBO's Westworld [3] (which returned on Sunday), to appearing in USA's Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G. [4], it's been a huge year for Jimmi Simpson. But the 42-year-old actor has been at it for awhile, starring in a number of films and TV series including movies like White House Down, Date Night, and Zodiac, along with shows like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and House of Cards.

Simpson has more than proven his acting chops, and it's time to get to know him!

  1. Acting has long been a goal of his. He graduated from Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania with a bachelor of arts in theatre, and acted for four seasons with the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massachusetts after graduating. He starred alongside Jason Biggs in the 2000 teen comedy Loser for his onscreen debut.
  2. He's a big fan of furry friends, particularly dogs. Simpson is all about sharing all the cuteness of the four-legged buddies in his life by posting photos of them on his Instagram [5]. Whether it's an awesome painting of his late doggo and best friend Mouse, or an adorable shot of his "neph-pooch" in costume while with him on set, you can count on him bringing all the fuzzy adorableness you could ask for to his feed.
  3. His family has had enough of him playing creepy characters in his films and shows. In a recent interview with Seth Meyers [6], he joked, "My dad's line always is, 'Are you playing another creep?,' and my mom's line always is, 'Doesn't Hollywood know you're a nice man?'"
  4. He's not shy about standing up for equal rights. Simpson participated in the 2018 Women's March [7] alongside his Unsolved costars, noting, "The only thing better than being a part of an important and pertinent show like #Unsolved is the fact that the men I'm working with are as passionate as I am about ending the archaic oppression of human women." He also publicly campaigns for Planned Parenthood.
  5. Yes, you've seen him on Letterman. David Letterman's team recruited him [8] to play the character of "Lyle the Intern" on the David Letterman [9] Show after seeing him on stage at a Broadway play. "The two writers at the time, the Stangel brothers, were walking by my theatre and they had just conceived the idea of having an asshole come on stage as an intern of Dave. And they saw my face and they said, 'That looks like our guy,'" he explained in a 2016 interview with The AV Club.
