Who Has Joshua Jackson Dated?

Everyone Joshua Jackson Dated Before Marrying Jodie Turner-Smith

"Dr. Death" and "Little Fires Everywhere" star Joshua Jackson will next be seen playing a cheating husband whose brief extramarital affair turns fatal in the upcoming Paramount+ TV adaptation of the 1986 classic "Fatal Attraction." In real life, however, Jackson is a doting husband to fellow actor Jodie Turner-Smith. The pair married in 2019 after a whirlwind romance that had the world invested in their love story from day one.

By the looks of Jackson's dating history, the '90s heartthrob has always been a hopeless romantic. While he's never been the type to give regular updates about his various romances over the years, he also wasn't the type to shy away from weekend strolls on the streets of LA or a red carpet event with his love of the moment.

From brief relationships with his onscreen costars like Katie Holmes to his 10-year relationship with Diane Kruger, here are all the women Jackson romanced publicly before he fell in love with Turner-Smith.

1. Katie Holmes (1997)

Very little is known about Jackson's brief offscreen relationship with his "Dawson's Creek" costar (who played his character Pacey's onscreen love interest, Joey), but it was seemingly a bright spot for Holmes in the early days of filming their hit '90s show.

When asked about their rumoured romance by Rolling Stone in a September 1998 interview, Holmes played coy but didn't deny they had a romantic relationship, sharing, "I'm just going to say that I met somebody last year. I fell in love, I had my first love, and it was something so incredible and indescribable that I will treasure it always."

The pair had already amicably broken up by that point, however. She continued, "I feel so fortunate because he's now one of my best friends. It's weird, it's almost like a Dawson-and-Joey type thing now . . . He's been in the business so long, and he's really helped me. I respect him as a friend and as a professional."

2. Brittany Daniel (1999)

Holmes wasn't the only "Dawson's Creek" alum whom Jackson romanced. He's rumoured to have dated his season three costar Brittany Daniel (who played Eve Whitman) for a short time in late 1999. The pair attended the Radio Music Awards together on Oct. 28, 1999 (pictured above), before things seemingly fizzled out behind the scenes.

3. Rosario Dawson (2002-2003)

Jackson and the "Ahsoka" actor dated for about a year starting in 2002 and were often spotted out and about looking quite coupley throughout that time. While they split quietly behind the scenes in 2003, the pair appear to remain friendly. They were photographed hanging out together in NYC in May 2018.

4. Diane Kruger (2006-2016)

Jackson started dating the German model-turned-actor in 2006 after what they both recounted was a disastrous first date at an Italian restaurant, where they were sat next to flowers the "Inglorious Bastards" actor was allergic to. "She sniffled and sneezed the entire time," Jackson explained to Us Weekly in 2012. "And when I get nervous, you might have noticed I talk a lot. So I just chewed her ear off for an hour and a half… It was amazing. I'm surprised she ever called back."

In the same interview, Kruger revealed that the couple, who had been together for six years at the time, had no plans to get married. "Marriage is important for the people it's important for, but neither one of us is particularly religious, so I don't think there's any particular push," she explained. "But never say never! I don't know." (Kruger had previously been married to French director Guillaume Canet from 2001 to 2005.)

In a March 2016 interview with The Edit (via The Daily Mail), Kruger revealed that she had moved from Paris to NYC to be closer to Jackson, calling it a "major commitment." "That's a big step into adulthood for me, to allow that time for someone else out of my time," she said of the move.

However, the move spelled the end for the long-term couple. By July 2016, the pair had called it quits after a decade together, albeit amicably. "Diane Kruger and Josh Jackson have decided to separate and remain friends," a rep for the couple told People.

Following his breakup from Kruger, Jackson was next linked to model Shafia West in August 2017, when they were spotted strolling through a Studio City, CA, farmer's market, per photos obtained by Us Weekly. Not much is known about the pair's relationship, but they were spotted out together on a couple more occasions, the last time being in December 2017, after which their relationship appears to have cooled off.

Jackson appeared to move on from West swiftly with TV host and actor Alyssa Julya Smith. They were first spotted strolling through Central Park in New York City in June 2018, according to photos obtained by E! News, but a source told the publication that Jackson's relationship with the LA-based media personality had been going on for "several months" at the time. They were reportedly trying to make long-distance work, as Jackson was then living in NYC for his Broadway run in "Children of a Lesser God," but things didn't work out. Jackson moved on to a new relationship by that October.

Jackson was first linked with the 36-year-old "Queen & Slim" and "Murder Mystery 2" actor in November 2018 when they were spotted walking together in LA, per photos obtained by Us Weekly. Their status as one of Hollywood's most beloved couples was established just about instantly as their whirlwind romance unfolded in front of the world.

In a 2021 interview on "Late Night with Seth Meyers," Turner-Smith revealed that she met Jackson at Usher's 2018 40th birthday party and was immediately smitten with the star. "I saw him before he saw me, and when I saw him, I was like, 'I want that,'" she said (via People). "And then when he saw me, I just pretended like I didn't see him." Somehow, that turned into a one-night stand that turned into a "three-year one-night stand," Turner-Smith joked.

The pair went Instagram official a year later in August 2019, when Turner-Smith shared a photo of the pair on a date at The Clarke Cooke House in Newport, RI, captioning it, "Two people who only fancy each other a little bit." By that December, Us Weekly confirmed the couple had married in a secret ceremony, and they welcomed a baby girl together named Janie the following April.

In October 2021, Turner-Smith told People, "I love being a parent," adding that, "It's honestly one of the greatest things I could have asked for." She also praised Jackson for his parenting skills, saying, "It's everything. He's an amazing partner and an amazing dad."

The couple is still going strong in 2023, having last appeared together on the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscar Party red carpet, pictured above. Check out more pictures of Jackson and Turner-Smith ahead.
