Princess Eugenie's Wedding Guest List Might Be More Impressive Than Prince Harry's

27/03/2018 - 03:15 PM

There's nothing quite like a good wedding to bring people together, but when it's a royal wedding in the cards, things get even more interesting! At Princess Eugenie's big day [1] on Oct. 12, key figures surrounding the royal family will be stepping into the spotlight — from the practically royal Pippa Middleton [2] with big sister Kate to the almost-princesses Chelsy Davy and Cressida Bonas [3] and former royal bride Sarah Ferguson. This is what you can expect from Eugenie's nuptials, the second biggest British royal wedding of 2018.

The Yorks

Prince Charles's younger brother, Prince Andrew, seems to have struggled with his royal position at times [5]. In recent years, it has been reported that the two princes have clashed over the funding of Andrew's daughters [6], Beatrice and Eugenie. However, with the marriage of the younger princess, the Waleses and the Cambridges will step aside, as it's time for the sometimes controversial Yorks [7] to take centre stage.

Andrew will be placed squarely in the spotlight as he will be walking Eugenie down the aisle and giving a speech at the reception. He has remained close with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson [8] — Eugenie has referred to them as "the best divorced couple I know" — and so it's likely the pair will be presiding proudly side by side.

Princess Beatrice

Beatrice and Eugenie are very close [9], undertaking charity and royal engagements together, and mixing in the same friendship groups, so Princess Beatrice [10] is the key contender for maid of honour duties.

Beatrice was in a relationship with Uber executive Dave Clark for almost ten years, and they double dated and holidayed with Eugenie and Jack on many occasions. However, although Beatrice has been romantically linked to oil heir Michael Hess, she hasn't gone pubic with a boyfriend since her breakup in 2016. This means she's likely to buddy up with her mum, Sarah Ferguson, who has been in on-and-off relationship with businessman Manuel Fernandez since 2014.

William and Harry

The two princes are older than Beatrice and Eugenie, but they have always got on well with their cousins. As William was getting more serious with Kate, and Harry was splitting with Chelsy Davy, the younger prince used to party with his cousins in London, thanks to their overlapping friendship groups. They even holidayed together in the Swiss ski resort of Verbier [11] on New Year's eve in 2011.

Eugenie gave a reading at her cousin Peter Phillips' wedding in 2008, while William and Harry read at Zara Tindall's wedding in 2011 — so could the royal brothers be on hand for similar duties on Eugenie's big day?

Prince George and Princess Charlotte

With all the excitement of seeing George and Charlotte as part of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding this Spring [12], the young royals are also likely to be asked to step up for Eugenie's day. The royals often turn to family members when it comes to filling the bridesmaid and page boy duties, and with Eugenie being one of the first of her girlfriends to walk down the aisle, there are few available little ones around to fill those shoes. She's sure to turn to her cousin's offspring.

Sarah Ferguson

The former duchess and mum to Princess Eugenie will no doubt be a main part of her daughter's wedding, mingling with the rest of the royal family at the ceremony and reception.

Sarah got on well with the Queen back in the 1980s when she was married to Prince Andrew [13], but shortly after the couple's separation announcement, Sarah was photographed embracing her new partner, and her relationship with various members of the royal family has been affected ever since.

While Sarah and the Queen are on good terms again now [14], it has been reported that Prince Philip has no time for his former daughter-in-law, and Prince Charles and Prince William have taken a similar view — which is why Sarah wasn't invited to William and Kate's wedding in 2011. However, it seems Prince Harry shares the Queen's sentiments, since it's been reported that has invited his former aunt to his wedding on May 19.

Cressida Bonas

Eugenie has a close-knit group of girlfriends, and one of her besties is model and actress Cressida Bonas [15], also known as Prince Harry's girlfriend from 2012 to 2014. It was Eugenie who introduced the pair, and the princess has stayed tight with Cressida.

Cressida was there on Harry's 31st birthday in 2015, but she hasn't stayed close to her royal ex, so Eugenie's wedding is likely to be the first time she'll come face to face with Harry and his new wife Meghan [16].

Chelsy Davy

The younger royals and their friends are used to running into former flames at each others' weddings, and it might be a big reunion for Prince Harry at his cousin Princess Eugenie's big day. Eugenie became close with Harry's first love, Chelsy [17], during the couple's seven year on-and-off relationship, and Eugenie made time to support Chelsy when she launched her jewellery range AYA in 2016.

Ellie Goulding

Harry wasn't in a relationship with Ellie as he was with Chelsy and Cressida, but they were linked together in 2016, just before Harry started dating Meghan. Good friends Ellie and Princess Eugenie [18] have hung out on both sides of the Atlantic, going to events in London and taking in a basketball game with their boyfriends in NYC — Ellie is currently in a relationship with Caspar Jopling, a member of Great Britain's rowing team.

The Duchess of Cambridge and Pippa Middleton

Pippa has become close with Eugenie after hanging out at society events, fundraisers, and mutual friends' weddings [19], and the princess attended Pippa's wedding in 2017.

Kate and Pippa spend a lot of time together, but they are very rarely spotted in public, so this could be the first time we get a glimpse of the sisters [20] in the same place since Pippa's wedding in May 2017. At Eugenie's nuptials, they will be just like any other guest, able to kick up their heels with no responsibilities.

Celebrity Friends

The princess is a vivacious and popular member of the family, and has her fair share of celebrity friends [21], including James Blunt, Cara Delevingne, and comedians Jack Whitehall and Jimmy Carr. Other celebrity guests might include Ashton Kutcher [22] and Mila Kunis [23], who are friends with her sister Beatrice.
