The 2023 Cannes Film Festival kicked off on Tuesday, 16 May, and it's brought together some of the biggest and brightest stars in the world. Ahead of the screening of Johnny Depp's "Jeanne du Barry," which opened the festival, photographers captured glamorous looks from Elle Fanning, Candice Swanepoel, Naomi Campbell, and more on the red carpet. Helen Mirren debuted her new blue hair and Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones made it a family affair. Plus, Oscar winner Brie Larson made a splash as well — and she's on the festival's jury, so expect many more appearances from her this year.
On 17 May, Viola Davis, Iris Law, Laura Harrier, and Ethan Hawke all hit the red carpet before screenings of "Monster" and "Strange Way of Life." A day later, Adriana Lima and boyfriend Andre Lemmers were photographed kissing on the Cannes carpet, , while Harrison Ford and wife Calista Flockhart stepped out for their first big appearance in nearly five years. The next day, Dua Lipa and French director Romain Gavras also made a splash at Cannes for their big couple debut.
Meanwhile, 20 May brought the premiere of Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon," and a bevy of stars showed up to see the film. Among those who walked the red carpet were the movie's stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, as well as Will Ferrell, Naomi Campbell, and couple Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons.
On 22 May, Lily-Rose Depp, Jennie Kim, The Weeknd (aka Abel Tesfaye), and the cast of "The Idol" stepped out for the festival, where the buzzy (and controversial) series debuted its first episodes out of competition before an official June premiere. Then, the following day, Wes Anderson's "Asteroid City" premiere brought out its stars Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston, Rupert Friend, and Maya Hawke, as well as Julia Garner, Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, and married pair Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost.
Meanwhile, the 2023 amfAR Gala held at Cannes on 25 May, which raises money for the fight against HIV/AIDS, brought out pairings like Queen Latifah and her partner, Eboni Nichols, as well as Rebel Wilson and her fiancée, Ramona Agruma.
Other films that are screening at this year's Cannes festival include "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," Todd Haynes's "May December," and Disney and Pixar's newest film, "Elemental," which will close the festivities.
All that's to say it's been a very buzzy — and star-studded — festival so far, and there's definitely more to come, so keep reading to see who else in Hollywood is on the French Riviera this month.
