Radio 1 presenter Clara Amfo just unveiled her very own Barbie to celebrate International Women's Day. "I honestly am still figuring out what to say because this is more than 'just a doll' to me🤯🥺 Filled with infinite gratitude for this moment. THANK YOU @BARBIE for making me your Role Model Doll for 2021," ⁣Clara wrote on her Instagram announcing the news.

"This is something I never imagined and it's beautifully overwhelming TBH. To have this crafted so carefully from the skin tone to the hair texture is just !!!! @barbiestyle smashed it!⁣⁣" Clara added. The doll matches Clara's curly, undercut hairstyle, and includes her nose piercing, gold hoops, and a microphone.

"This doll isn't about perfection because I'm sure as heck not but it's about possibilities and reminder that I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be. For times I've been told I'm not 'just not the right type kind of...' (hold tight all my weirdo black girls!🙌🏾😉) or have felt afraid to stick my head above the parapet for fear of being wilfully misunderstood but done it anyway," Clara continued in her Instagram post.

The creation of the Barbie is in partnership with Barbie's Dream Gap Project [3], an initiative that works with female role models in an effort to close the "dream gap" — the time when girls as young as 5 start to lose confidence and doubt their abilities due to their gender. In addition, the Dream Gap Project and Clara have partnered with Milk Honey Bees [4], a "[f]emale led, expressive safe space that aims to allow young women to feel empowered and heal from their experiences."

The launch of Clara's doll follows the successful release of Dina Asher-Smith's "Shero" doll [5] in 2020. That doll wears a British running kit, complete with a crop top, shorts, running shoes, plus gold hoops and a gold necklace.
