BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA - MARCH 22: Demi Lovato performs onstage during the OBB Premiere Event for YouTube Originals Docuseries

Demi Lovato [1] is opening up about her long road to recovery following her 2018 overdose. After revealing that she was legally blind when she woke up in the hospital [2] in her docuseries Dancing With the Devil [3], the 28-year-old singer is detailing more effects her overdose had on her sight [4]. "The physical implications of what had happened were really difficult to adjust to," she told People. "As simple as tweezing your eyebrows, I had to figure out how to look higher so that I could see because my blind spots were in the main focal point of my vision. Even putting on a full outfit, I couldn't see my shoes. I'd have to ask somebody else, 'Do these shoes go with it?'"

In her docuseries, Demi noted that following her overdose, she had three strokes, a heart attack, and suffered brain damage from the strokes. In addition to having blind spots in her vision, she can't drive anymore and sometimes misses a cup when she's pouring a drink because she can't see it.

Despite everything she has gone through, Demi is choosing to keep a positive attitude [5] and hold onto her "great sense of humour." "I find that it's important to laugh when you can," she continued. "When I did do things like spill drinks that I was pouring on Thanksgiving with my family and it spilled everywhere, we kind of laughed about it a little because you have to. It's incredible how the human body just adapts. I didn't ever have a period of time where I thought, 'Oh my God, my vision might be gone forever' [or] go into this panic attack. We just have to adapt, and that's how I did move forward with it."
