Dua Lipa Is Granted Albanian Citizenship: "I am Feeling Very Proud"

Dua Lipa has been granted Albanian citizenship by President Bajram Begaj. The singer posted a carousel of photos on her Instagram on 27 Nov. alongside the caption, "🇦🇱👐🏼 Thank you President Bajram Begaj and Mayor @erionveliaj for this honour ~ got my Albanian citizenship!! ~ faleminderit, po ndihem shume krenare 🇦🇱❤️👐🏼". The latter part of the caption translates from Albanian to "thank you, I am feeling very proud."

Lipa's citizenship was granted a day ahead of Albania's 110th anniversary of independence from the Ottomon Empire as she took an oath at Tirana City Hall. The country's president said she has made Albanians famous throughout the world because of her music, according to The Guardian. He also tweeted, "Happy to give the one and only @DUALIPA the decree of Albanian citizenship. She has made us proud with her global career and engagement in important social causes."

Lipa was born in London in 1995 to Kosovan Albanian parents, Anesa and Dukagjin Lipa. Albanian is her first language and she was also awarded the title of honourary ambassador of Kosovo in August 2022. Together with her father, Lipa founded the Sunny Hill Festival in 2018 with annual concerts held in Kosovo to help people experiencing financial difficulties. The "Potion" singer is also wrapping up her "Future Nostalgia" tour on Monday, 28 Nov. in Tirana to commemorate Independence Day.
