Ellen DeGeneres Defends Her Friendship With George W. Bush: "Be Kind to Everyone"

Ellen DeGeneres [1] is defending her friendship with former president George W. Bush after a recent photo of the two went viral over the weekend. The Ellen DeGeneres Show [2] host gave some backstory during her show on Tuesday and provided the audience with her feelings on friendship. Ellen said she and wife Portia de Rossi [3] were invited to a Dallas Cowboys game by the team owner's daughter, Charlotte Jones. They were set up in the middle of many "fancy" people, including George. "During the game they showed a shot of me and George laughing together," Ellen said. "People were upset. They thought 'Why is a gay Hollywood liberal sitting next to a conservative Republican president?'"

"I'm friends with George Bush. In fact, I'm friends with a lot of people who don't share the same beliefs that I have. We're all different and I think that we've forgotten that that's OK that we're all different," she explained. "Just because I don't agree with someone on everything doesn't mean I'm not going to be friends with them. When I say be kind to one another, I don't mean only the people who think the same way that you do. I mean be kind to everyone. Doesn't matter."
