Eminem Celebrates 12 Years of Sobriety in an Instagram Post

Eminem Celebrates 12 Years of Sobriety With Moving Instagram Post: "I'm Not Afraid"

Eminem is celebrating a big accomplishment. On Monday, the 47-year-old rapper marked 12 years of sobriety by sharing a moving Instagram post. "Clean dozen, in the books! I'm not afraid," he wrote alongside a photo of his Alcoholics Anonymous coin. The coin, which is often used to mark sober anniversaries, is engraved with the words "unity," "strength," and "recovery," as well as the phrase "To thine own self be true."

This marks the third year in a row that Eminem has celebrated his sobriety on Instagram. Last year, he shared a photo of him holding his coin in the palm of his hand, and the year before — which marked a decade of sobriety — he posted a photo of himself holding his coin. Over the years, Eminem has been very open about his struggle with substance abuse. In an interview with Men's Journal in 2015, he revealed that he overdosed on pills in 2007 and eventually turned to exercise to help him cope with his addiction.
