Eminem Reunited With Elton John at the 2020 Oscars

Eminem Reunited With "Uncle Elton" After His Surprise Oscars Performance

Eminem's unexpected Oscars performance wasn't his only surprise on Sunday night. After the rapper shocked celebrities with a live rendition of his 2003 track "Lose Yourself," he reunited with longtime friend Elton John backstage and sent "Uncle Elton" some well-wishes on Instagram. "I got to see my Uncle Elton tonight at the Oscars," Eminem captioned their photo. "Congrats on your win too, Sir," he added, referencing Elton's award for best original song.

Elton and Eminem's friendship started in 2001 when the musicians performed "Stan" together at the Grammys. (Never forget the original "Stan," Devon Sawa.) Since then, Eminem has credited Elton with helping him get sober nearly 12 years ago, and in 2017, the old pals opened up about their bond for Interview magazine.

"Your sobriety day is in my diary. I'm so proud of you," Elton told Eminem. "I'm 27 years clean, and when you get clean, you see things in a different way. It makes your life so much more manageable. It seems to have made all the difference — I can tell when I speak to you."
