Insecure's Jay Ellis and Yvonne Orji Want You to Know Voting Is Important: "Change Takes Time"

On Tuesday, Insecure's Jay Ellis and Yvonne Orji joined the ranks of fellow celebrities teaming up with When We All Vote on Instagram — this time in support of the UTA Foundation's "Week of Action," which encourages voter registration. The costars took a moment to talk about Yvonne's Emmy nomination before getting down to the important topic at hand: voting. "We're going to be talking about voting, let me see how easy this is to register to vote," Yvonne told Jay in reference to what she was doing just before they started talking. "I went through two songs on my playlist, and I was like 'I'm done?'"

Besides showing fans how easy it is to register, Yvonne and Jay discussed how vital it is to vote even if you don't like the options. "I hope we never take for granted what our ancestors, what our grandparents, what our parents, and what people are still fighting for today," Jay stated. "It's crazy to me because, I feel like this is the only time people are like 'Well I don't like the options.' I think what a lot of people don't realise is that there's not ever going to be a perfect candidate," Yvonne added before saying you can't just Build-a-Bear your own perfect candidate.

They ended their voting talk with a significant point about the future. "Yes, change takes time, but you've got to change," Yvonne told Jay. "You've got to sit at the counter. Whatever that version is for us . . . The future generation is going to live in the decision of our vote today." You can watch their full conversation above.
