Jennifer Lawrence [1] is back in the spotlight, and boy, have we missed watching her crack dry-humoured jokes during interviews. After taking a three-year hiatus from acting, the soon-to-be mom [2] is currently on a press tour to promote her forthcoming Netflix film Don't Look Up [3], and her appearance on The Late Show Monday night was quite the entertaining treat to kick off the week. While discussing the movie's star-studded cast [4], which also includes Meryl Streep [5], Leonardo DiCaprio [6], and Kid Cudi, Jennifer quipped, "I felt like rubbish every day on that set," as if she hasn't won an Oscar. We love a modest queen.
The 31-year-old star went on to recall how she and her costars got in the habit of calling Meryl "the GOAT," a nickname that stands for "Greatest Of All Time" — but Meryl was blissfully unaware of the slang abbreviation. "We were doing a photoshoot, and . . . Meryl kind of said, 'That's right, just tell the old goat where to go.' And I was like, 'Meryl, you know that GOAT means greatest of all time, right?'" Jennifer said. Yep, the iconic actress assumed her cast mates were literally calling her a farm animal, when in reality it was quite the opposite.
Meanwhile, fellow Don't Look Up star Jonah Hill [8] told the same story during a Tonight Show interview on Monday [9], adding more endearing details. "Today, we were today a press conference, and she was like, 'Jonah is so comfortable with me, he's been calling me a goat all week.' She's so cool, she wasn't even offended by it!" Jonah said. "She was just like, 'I guess he loves me and is calling me a goat.'" We've said it before, and we'll say it again: Meryl Streep is a national treasure we must protect at all costs.
