The two confirmed that they have split [2] and ended their engagement in a joint statement to TODAY on Thursday, writing, "We have realised we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another's children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support." Their split was previously reported in March, but the couple eventually shut down breakup rumours, stating, "We are working through some things [3]."

Though the pair first met in 2005, they reconnected and started dating 12 years later in 2017. In March 2019, Alex proposed to Jennifer [4] during a romantic beach getaway in the Bahamas, but the two postponed their wedding twice due to the coronavirus pandemic.
