J Lo Talks Rekindled Ben Affleck Romance: "20 Years Later, It Does Have a Happy Ending"
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez are giving their love another shot! The couple first got together in 2002 after meeting on the set of their movie Gigli, but after two years together — and an engagement — they called it quits due to the excessive media attention. Seventeen years later, however, it seems Jennifer and Ben just couldn't keep away from each other.
In May 2020, the two rekindled their romance, and since then, they've been practically inseparable, going out on date nights, taking trips together, and showing off their love at red carpet movie premieres.
After much buzz over their rekindled romance, Lopez and Affleck took their relationship to the next level and got married in Riceboro, GA, this past August. Lopez also recently revealed to Vogue that she took Affleck's last name. "People are still going to call me Jennifer Lopez. But my legal name will be Mrs. Affleck because we're joined together," she explained. "We're husband and wife. I'm proud of that. I don't think that's a problem."
While promoting her upcoming ninth album in an interview with Zane Lowe in November, Lopez further opened up about her rekindled romance with Affleck. "We did know each other forever, and we had to live these separate paths and we did other beautiful things and we had these amazing children," she said. "Once we got whole enough and complete enough and loved ourselves enough and could stand on our own two feet really completely, as the universe would have it, we were brought into each other's lives again. And it was a crack in the clouds and that song came through and it was like, 'Boom, that's it.' And we were both very sure."
She also touched on their 2004 split, saying it was the hardest breakup she's ever gone through. "It was so painful after we broke up. Once we called off that wedding 20 years ago, it was the biggest heartbreak of my life. I honestly felt like I was going to die. It sent me on a spiral for the next 18 years where I just couldn't get it right," she admitted. "But now, 20 years later, it does have a happy ending. It has the most would-never-happen-in-Hollywood ending."
