Gather 'round the fireplace, because John Legend [3] is back with more festive-themed stories from his Facebook series "Legendary Christmas Tales," [4] and his latest one is like an episode out of a sitcom. While detailing some of his favourite holiday memories, John told the story of his engagement to Chrissy Teigen, but the magical moment was almost completely ruined by a trip to the airport.
"Did I ever tell you the story about my favourite holiday memory with Chrissy?" he captioned a clip from the video on Instagram. "My favourite holiday memory with Chrissy was actually in 2011, before we got married." During a holiday holiday in the Maldives, John and Chrissy had to make a routine stop at an airport in Sri Lanka. At the time, John had Chrissy's engagement ring [5] hidden in his bag because he was planning to propose to her during the trip.
"We went through security in the airport and they started asking me to take everything out of my bag — and they were checking it!" he said. "And they almost opened the box where the ring was, but for some reason, they didn't. They didn't ruin my Christmas surprise for Chrissy. I was able to propose to her, surprise her on the beach in the Maldives with an engagement ring . . . and we're living happily ever after." The anxiety of almost being caught was well worth it because in 2013, a year and a half later, the couple got married in Lake Como, Italy, and they now have a beautiful family together [6].
