Justin Bieber Gives $100,000 to Mental Health Advocate Video

Justin Bieber Donates $100,000 to Longtime Fan and Mental Health Advocate

Justin Bieber is giving back! On Feb. 7, the 25-year-old singer stopped by MTV's Fresh Out Live to talk about his new song "Intentions," but not without taking time to honour one of his longtime fans. Among those in the crowd was 22-year-old Julie Coker, the president of the Stockton University chapter of Active Minds, a nonprofit organisation that aims to support the mental health of college students. Julie joined the singer on stage to share a hug before Justin surprised her with a $100,000 check to help support her efforts. The two also shared a sweet interaction offscreen. "He was wonderful," Julie told Billboard. "I said, 'Congratulations,' because he got married to Hailey, and he asked me about my mental health story, and I told him that."

Justin has been very open about his mental health. One of his most powerful statements came in September when he shared a lengthy Instagram post about his struggles with growing up in the spotlight. "Have you noticed the statistics of child stars and the outcome of their life?" he wrote. "There is an insane pressure and responsibility put on a child who's brain, emotions, frontal lobes (decision making) aren't developed yet . . . When you add the pressure of stardom, it does something to you that is quite unexplainable [sic]."

He went on to say that his relationship with wife Hailey has helped him get to a better place, adding, "I am navigating the best season of my life 'MARRIAGE'!! Which is an amazing crazy new responsibility. You learn patience, trust, commitment, kindness, humility and all of the things it looks like to be a good man."
