Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson Break Up: Reports

Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian Broke Up Because "the Spark Between Them Faded"

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 02: Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian attend The 2022 Met Gala Celebrating

Just days after multiple reports confirmed Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson's breakup, there's news about why the couple reportedly split. On 6 August, a source told Entertainment Tonight that "the spark between them" had "faded" after their relationship went long distance.

"Pete and Kim broke up. The distance has been hard and things were starting to fizzle out," the source told ET. "Pete being away for so long was hard for them. Kim is doing well and she knows she has a lot going on. Pete has been super busy as well."

Davidson has been busy filming the upcoming movie "Wizards!" in Australia, while Kardashian is based in Los Angeles. However, it reportedly wasn't just the distance that led to the breakup. It seems Kardashian wasn't quite ready to settle down so soon after the end of her marriage to Kanye West.

"They had tons of chemistry, and still do, but she kind of wants to be single and date," the source continued. "Kim still adores Pete and will always be friends with him. She still thinks he's the nicest and sweetest guy in the world and there's no drama or anything weird between them now. She felt like Pete was the extreme opposite of Kanye and it was good for her then."

Per ET, Kardashian initially thought her romance with Davidson would just be a fling, but when things became more serious, it was evident they were in two different places emotionally. "Kim wasn't feeling like she was willing to settle down with him just yet," the source explained.

News of the couple's split broke on 5 August, when a source told E! News that the "Saturday Night Live" alum and Kardashian, 41, had decided to end their relationship. People then reported similarly.

E! News's source explained that Kardashian and Davidson have "love and respect for each other," but doing long distance amid "demanding schedules" made maintaining a relationship difficult. Both outlets reported that the breakup happened this week.

The source also told E! News that Kardashian is still going forward with her divorce from West. "The divorce is moving ahead with Kanye," the source said. "They are happily co-parenting."

Davidson, 28, and Kardashian first met at the Met Gala in September 2021, a month prior to her gig hosting "Saturday Night Live" that October. During one sketch, the pair shared a kiss — foreshadowing what was to come. The "vibe" was there, Kardashian revealed during an episode of her family's Hulu series: "A few days later, I called the producer at 'SNL,' and I was like, 'Hey, do you have Pete's number?' And they were like, 'Yeah!'" The Skims mogul admitted that at the time, she was just looking for a hookup — but things with Davidson evolved.

Of course, it wasn't the first romance for either. Kardashian married rapper West in 2014, and the couple share four children (North, 9; Saint, 6; Chicago, 4; and Psalm, 3). She filed for divorce from West in February 2021.

And Davidson was previously engaged to pop star Ariana Grande from June 2018 to that October. Prior to Kardashian, his most recent public romance was with "Bridgerton" star Phoebe Dynevor, but he's also been linked to Margaret Qualley and Kate Beckinsale.
