There's another revival on the way [1]: the groundbreaking drama The L Word is returning this Winter with The L Word: Generation Q [2]. The cast includes several of the stars from the original series, which ran from 2004 to 2009, as well as plenty of newcomers, including a younger generation of characters. Like the original, the new show (premiering Dec. 8) revolves around the lives and loves of a group of friends, most of whom are lesbian women [3], in Southern California. Three of the original leads are back, but most of the rest of the main cast consists of new faces! Keep reading to see who's back, who's not, and who's new.

Jennifer Beals as Bette Porter

The star of Flashdance and the original The L Word returns as Bette, an out lesbian now running to be the mayor of Los Angeles.

Kate Moennig as Shane McCutcheon

Along with some of her costars, Moennig returns as Shane, a confident, androgynous hair stylist. Moennig hasn't been away from the TV world since the original L Word ended: most notably, she has played the role of Lena on Ray Donovan since 2013 and played Professor Paige Hewson in the second and third seasons of Grownish.

Rosanny Zayas as Sophie Suarez

If you're an Orange Is the New Black [4] fan, you'll probably recognise this new face to The L Word's world — Zayas played Daisy in a 2019 episode of the Netflix fave. She's playing Sophie, a TV producer, on the new series.

Sepideh Moafi as Gigi

Moafi is probably best known for her work on The Deuce, but her resume is pretty extensive already. She's had recurring roles on TV shows including Falling Water and Notorious, as well as guest appearances dating back to 2013.

Jacqueline Toboni as Sarah Finley

Toboni joins the cast as Sarah, an executive assistant who comes from a very religious family. She's best known to TV viewers as Trubel from the fantasy drama Grimm and from her roles on the Netflix anthology series Easy.

Leisha Hailey as Alice Pieszecki

Bisexual talk show host Alice is back from the original series with plenty more to say! Hailey has worked steadily since completing the original L Word series, with tons of guest roles, including stints on Supernatural, Chasing Life, and Silicon Valley.

Arienne Mandi as Dani Nùñez

Mandi joins the cast as Dani, a PR executive and Bette's new love interest. The L Word is Mandi's first major series regular role, although she's had guest spots on shows including NCIS and Hawaii Five-0.

Leo Sheng as Micah Lee

Micah is another of the new characters in the revival series, a trans man (and Dani's ex) who works as a professor of climate science. This marks Sheng's second onscreen role, following the controversial teen drama Adam.

Jordan Hull as Angelica "Angie" Porter-Kennard

Newcomer Hull is set to play Angie, the adopted teenage daughter of Bette and her former partner Tina.

Stephanie Allynne as Nat

Allynne's TV and movie resume is quite extensive, but she's never quite had a "breakthrough" lead role yet. Her most recent projects include an episode of the HBO series Room 104 and the Hugh Jackman [5] political drama The Frontrunner.
