Love Island's Sharon Gaffka Is Pushing For "More Proactive Legislation" Around Spiking

Former Love Island contestant Sharon Gaffka appeared on Good Morning Britain to talk about a new anti-spiking campaign she's been working on following her own experience with spiking. The social media star has collected a total of 1,000 testimonies from various victims, which she hopes to take to the home affairs committee and use to push for further education in schools. "I'm asking for more proactive legislation rather than reactive," Gaffka explained to the GMB hosts.

Following her appearance on the show, Gaffka shared a clip on Instagram alongside a lengthy caption that read "Being honest as a person with 'an online presence' leaves you extremely vulnerable to trolling and abusive messages. Since my interview, I've seen tweets and DMs calling me all sorts, from 'Love Island wannabe' to sexually derogatory slurs, to victim shaming. As I sat in the car on the way home, the feeling of 'maybe it's my fault' and 'what could I have done differently' returned."

"Spiking is NEVER the victims fault," Gaffka continued. "The mentality that it is, is what's wrong with the whole situation and exactly the reason why victims don't come forward. And exactly the reason why I'm asking the government to include spiking in PSHE (Personal, social, health, and economic) lessons and why consent needs to be included in sex education. Spiking doesn't always have to be a stranger and not always for purposes of SA (sexual assault). I've had THOUSANDS of testimonies, from victims, medics, and the force. I PERSONALLY have read EVERY story, even if I don't have time to reply. I see you, and I hear you. For every man, woman and child (YES, children), that have fallen victim to this heinous crime. The faceless trolls are worth it."
