Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato Got Deep About Their Friendship, and 2008 Me Is Freaking Out
Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato are reflecting on their decade-plus friendship. In the second episode of the daily Instagram Live interview series Miley launched while in quarantine, called Bright Minded, the longtime friends and Disney Channel alums spoke about how they've managed to stay close over the years, in addition to a range of other topics that included mental health, social media, spirituality, and cancel culture.
The heartwarming exchange began when Miley brought up the negative comments she received about her body following her infamous 2013 Video Music Awards performance. Demi replied, "I'm so sad that you went through that and I had no idea. I wish I could've been there for you. I didn't know, and I feel like we've gone through times where we're closer and then distant — and that's fine. That's what friends do." She added, "I just wish I could've been there for you. But if that ever f*cking happens again, you better call me."

Miley then shared how the ongoing coronavirus outbreak has been a poignant reminder to reach out to those she's lost touch with. "Life is moving usually so fast that it's hard to slow ourselves down and appreciate people in our lives. You've been that person for me for so many years and we've been friends for so long," she told Demi. "We can not talk forever and then some bullsh*t will go down, and I'll just know you're the person I want to reach out to."

Given that they've known each other for so long, Demi proceeded to stress the importance of sticking together. "I feel like you've always been such a light, and that's why we connected at 14," she said. "We connected then because we just saw something in each other. Maybe it was our spirituality, or maybe it was just our hearts." Without missing a beat, Miley quickly chimed in with, "Or maybe we were just gay as f*ck," alluding to the fact that they've both since been open about having fluid sexual orientations.
