Niall Horan Reading Twas the Night Before Christmas in a Scottish Accent Is Surprisingly Spot On

Nailing a foreign accent is hard for most people, but apparently, not for Niall Horan [1]. He visited The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon [2] on Thursday night to speak about his upcoming album (which is set for release in early 2020), but that's not what we're talking about right now, okay. Jimmy challenged Niall to read the classic story of Twas the Night Before Christmas in seven different languages and, you know what, he did a pretty damn good job.

The challenge started off easily, with a Scottish accent that Niall had no problem with. House = hoose, mouse = moose, you know the drill. Next up was Russian, and then Spanish. An aggressive American accent was followed by a pensive French one, which was then followed by an even more aggressive Brooklyn-ish accent than he clearly had a lot of fun with, taking creative licence, yelling "it was freakin' Santa Claus!" Needless to say, it was around this time that Jimmy completely lost the plot laughing.

But the one accent that really blew us away was his final one: Australian. The Aussie accent is a hard one to master (I'd know — I'm an Aussie who's had to endure many the butchered "g'day mate" yelled in my face over the years), but when Niall finished with a pitch-perfect "And I heard 'em exclaim, as he drove out of sight, Merry Christmas to all, and g'day mate!" even I was impressed. Watch the full video above and try not to laugh your ass off, I dare you.
