Selena Quintanilla and Chris Pérez's Love Story Is One of the Greatest of All Time
Selena Quintanilla and Chris Pérez were the definition of true love. The two first crossed paths in the early '90s when the guitarist joined the Tejano singer's band, Selena y Los Dinos, and they began secretly dating shortly after. "We got to live a fast and crazy life as kids," Chris previously told Entertainment Tonight. "I believe I was 20 when we first started getting serious with each other." Despite the fact that Selena's father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., disapproved of their relationship, Selena and Chris eventually eloped at a Texas courthouse on April 2, 1992. "Selena and I decided that the only way to be together . . . was to run away and get married (at 20 and 22 years old) in secret," Chris wrote on Facebook in 2017. "What a rollercoaster ride THAT day was."
Sadly, their marriage was short-lived as Selena was fatally shot at by the president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldívar, on March 31, 1995. Since her passing, Chris has continued to honour Selena with heartfelt sentiments and tributes on social media and in interviews. "I'm proud of her," Chris told ET in 2018.
