Tiffany Haddish on Attending George Floyd's Memorial: "The Amount of Pain I Felt Was Tremendous"

Tiffany Haddish is not the comedic force of joy she's used to being. This week, she sat down for a virtual appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers [1], where she spoke about the pain she's feeling and what it was like to attend George Floyd's memorial service in Minneapolis. "It has been so difficult for me to express any kind of joy or bring any kind of happiness because I'm literally sitting back and watching the world fall apart," she said. "And it needs to fall apart. Things need to fall apart and be put back together again in a way that's fair."

Tiffany explained that after being invited to the service, she wanted to attend not only for George, but for all the people in her life that she's lost over the years [2]. "Being there was like being there for all my friends whose funerals I already went to, for all my friends who passed away, all the people that I went to school with who have been locked up for no reason, just because they can't afford a good lawyer or accused of things they didn't do," she said.

"All the tears that I ever wanted to cry were coming out."

Like many of us who saw the eulogies from the memorial, Tiffany said the emotions were overwhelming [3] and everyone in the room felt them. "I cried so much," she said. "It was tears not just for Floyd, but for all of those people that passed away. All the tears that I ever wanted to cry were coming out . . . the amount of pain that I felt was tremendous."
