Get ready, because the Invictus Games finally have a new date! On Wednesday, it was announced that Prince Harry's annual Paralympic-style competition [2] for wounded and recovering soldiers and veterans will take place in The Hague, Netherlands from 16 to 22 April in 2022. The 2022 competition was originally supposed to take place in Düsseldorf, Germany, but the location was changed after the 2020 and 2021 games [3] were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Invictus Games will bring together "over 500 competitors as they showcase their talents, determination and camaraderie to the world," and they hold a special place in Harry's heart, as he spent 10 years serving in the Armed Forces. Even though Harry is no longer a senior member of the royal family, he still remains patron [4] of the Invictus Games Foundation. The event has been previously held in London, Orlando, Toronto, and Sydney, and next year's games will be the focus of Harry and Meghan Markle [5]'s first series with Netflix. Earlier this week, the couple announced their upcoming docuseries, Heart of Invictus [6], which will follow athletes as they prepare for the 2022 Invictus Games.
"This series will give communities around the world a window into the moving and uplifting stories of these competitors on their path to the Netherlands next year," Harry said in a statement. "As Archewell Productions' first series with Netflix, in partnership with the Invictus Games Foundation, I couldn't be more excited for the journey ahead or prouder of the Invictus community for continuously inspiring global healing, human potential and continued service." A premiere date for the series has yet to be announced.
