Ariana Grande

In her May 2020 cover story for Harper's Bazaar, Demi said of fellow pop star Ariana, "I love the fact that Ariana and I have such a supportive friendship [5] because it's hard to find. Two women who are in a competitive industry — the whole world seems to want to pit women against each other, so it would be so easy to do that."

The two are both managed by Scooter Braun, which, according to Harper's Bazaar, is how they've become even closer in the past couple years. Demi even invited Ariana to join her small birthday party [6] to celebrate turning 27 after Demi came out for Ariana's concert earlier in the night [7].

These two have been friends, though not always besties, for several years. When Demi was hospitalized in 2018, Ariana was quick to tweet a public declaration of her love for her friend and months later make sure everyone knew she talks to Demi every day [8].

Miley Cyrus

Miley and Demi have been friends since they were children, going through phases of being closer at times than others. When Miley had Demi on her quarantine show Bright Minded [9], they spoke about their lasting friendship. "Life is moving usually so fast that it's hard to slow ourselves down and appreciate people in our lives. You've been that person for me for so many years and we've been friends for so long," Miley told Demi. "We can not talk forever and then some bullsh*t will go down, and I'll just know you're the person I want to reach out to."

Demi also spoke about Miley in her May 2020 Harper's Bazaar cover issue, saying "[Miley]'s awesome, and I love her to death and always will [10], always have."

Angelo Kritikos

Photographer Angelo Kritikos has been shooting stunning photos of Demi for years, and the two have become good friends. He has shared countless shots of her on his own Instagram, which she also shows off on hers. He even shot the artwork for her single "I Love Me," which he shared on Instagram, thanking Demi for always believing in him and his work [11]. These two even did a FaceTime photo shoot while under quarantine this year, which you can just add to his already stacked portfolio of pictures of the singer [12].

Scooter Braun

Scooter is more than just Demi's manager — he's become a close friend. Demi recently told Ellen DeGeneres [13] on her show that she's grateful to have him in her life. She said on the show that Scooter "loved me for who I am and supported my journey."

Though Scooter has come under fire over the dispute over Taylor Swift's masters [14], Demi has stuck by his side, despite still seemingly being friendly with Taylor herself. After the feud started going down, Demi posted an Instagram Story urging her fans to see both sides [15] and saying she would stick by her team.

Sam Smith

Sam and Demi's friendship grew out of admiration for each other. They've both publicly gushed about the other [16] for years, and Demi even said she was dying to collaborate with Sam [17]. She got her wish when the two teamed up for their newest single, "I'm Ready."

Sam also opened up about their friendship with Demi, telling Harper's Bazaar, "I am enamoured by her strength [18] and willingness to tell her story, and also her openness about still not being perfect and still learning in front of everyone."

Matthew Scott Montgomery

Perhaps one of Demi's two closest friends is actor Matthew Scott Montgomery. In a 2019 Instagram post dedicated to Matthew and her other closest friend, Sara Elizabeth Mitchell (who goes by Sirah), Demi wrote, "Thank you for never leaving me in my darkest moments, for always drying my tears. . . . I'm so lucky to be best friends with two incredible souls who are so talented and creative because it inspires me daily. . . . most importantly you never abandoned me like others did when I was going through sh*t.. you were there to listen, without judgement and only love and I can never fully express what that means to me. You're the greatest friends I've EVER had and our future together is so bright. I love you both more than you can imagine!! Thank you for this past week."

After Demi's 2018 relapse, Matthew, who was at the time in a show called Dead Boys, spoke out about his best friend's struggles on his Instagram Story [19]. "It's been an incredibly difficult few days, and this year has easily been the hardest I've ever experienced. I will miss hearing my best friend's laugh, maybe my favourite sound in the world, in the audience for these final shows as she continues to recover." Matthew went on to say in the Harper's Bazaar interview in May that Demi is a "fighter in every sense of the word."

Sara Elizabeth Mitchell

Sirah, the third piece of this best-friend trio, also has nothing but gracious words for the singer, like when she posted this photo on Instagram with the caption, "Thank you @ddlovato for always making me feel like a lil princess and for recreating the childhood I never got. You've taught me how to swim, how to ski, you've dyed my hair, let me hide from the world in your bed w/ID channel. I know why the world loves you but they'll never know all reasons I do. The majority of the highlights of my life have been spent with the two of you and I'm beyond grateful."

Demi has leaned on both Sirah and Matthew during her recovery, and she made sure to include them both in the music video for her song "I Love Me [20]." When sharing the news that they, along with a few others, would be in the video, Demi wrote, "Some of my favourite people/closest friends made a guest appearance in my music video."
