Will Justin and Jessica officially get back together? Will Clay take the blame for the attempted school shooting? Thankfully, we'll be getting answers to those questions [2] and even more in this new season. Here are the few — spoiler free — details the cast revealed prior to the release.

The Premiere Date In the UK is 23 August 2019

The third season hit Netflix in the UK on Aug. 23 [3] and consists of 13 episodes.

Hannah Won't Return

After tying up Hannah's story with the trial in season two, Yorkey told Entertainment Weekly that there probably won't be a big need for her character next season [4]. Shortly after the release of season two, Katherine Langford confirmed on Instagram that she would not be reprising her role as Hannah [5].

It Takes Place 8 Months After Season 2

After preventing Tyler from committing a mass shooting at the high school dance, the new season will take places eight months later as Clay, Tony, Jessica, Alex, Justin, and Zach try to help their classmate recover while also cover up what happened.

One of the Main Characters Dies

In the first trailer for season three [6], the big story for the season is revealed: who killed Bryce Walker?

It Will Show a New Side of Bryce Walker

In light of Bryce's death, the series will show of a whole new side of the character. Anne Winters, who plays Bryce's girlfriend Chlöe Rice on the series, told Us Weekly that we'll "see a redeemable side to Bryce" this season [7]. Although she adds, "No one deserves to die. No one deserves to be raped. No one deserves to go through a lot of the things that people go through on our show. You'll see a lot of different sides to him."

Clay's Mental Illness Could Be Addressed

During season two, it's heavily hinted that Clay is dealing with some sort of mental illness [8] following Hannah's death. While it's not directly addressed this season, Dylan Minnette (the actor behind the character) told BuzzFeed News that he hopes the story will come up in future episodes [9]. "It definitely is something that should be addressed because I think it's pretty clear that he definitely has some issues and he is struggling," he said. "It really takes a toll on him and almost takes him completely to the edge in this season."

The Characters Will Form Deeper Bonds

Even with Hannah gone, Yorkey told EW that there will still be a big sense of community [10] between the characters for a potential third season. "One of our big themes for the season was the progression from isolation to community," Yorkey said. "We really wanted these kids to find a community in each other. I do hope that if the story does continue, we will continue to see that. I'm sure there will be new adversity, but I'm sure we also will see that there are bonds here that these characters didn't have before."
