10 Animated Movies Coming in 2019 That Aren't Just For Kids

You can always count on animated movies to provide a fun day out for the whole family — because not all cartoons are just for kids. In 2018 alone, there were several animated movies raking in the box office dough, most notably The Incredibles 2 and Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Holiday, which earned nearly $2 billion combined worldwide. Next year is looking to be no exception, with some high-profile animated sequels coming out (Toy Story 4, anyone?), plus a couple of brand-new animated films that may spawn their own franchises.

Five years after the first film, Finn's (Jadon Sand) younger sister has now invaded Bricksburg with her Duplo blocks, and all heck has broken loose. All your favourite Lego people are back: Chris Pratt as Emmet Brickowski, Elizabeth Banks as Lucy, Will Arnett as Batman, and Alison Brie as Princess Unikitty, with the additions of Tiffany Haddish as Queen Watevra Wa-Nabi, Stephanie Beatriz as Sweet Mayhem, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.

Release date: Feb. 8

This 3D animated film is the third and final instalment in the How to Train Your Dragon franchise. In this last film, Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and Toothless must leave the only home they've ever known to travel to a hidden world they only thought existed in myth. There they must fight to save their home. Cate Blanchett, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, and Jonah Hill costar.

Release date: Feb. 22

This star-studded kids' movie tells the tale of a young girl who has invented a fantastical amusement park in her mind, only to discover when she grows up that it's a real place she must now fight to save. It features the vocal acting of Matthew Broderick, Jennifer Garner, Kenan Thompson, Ken Jeong, Mila Kunis, and John Oliver, plus a TV show based on the film will debut on Nickelodeon in 2019.

Release date: March 15

Hugh Jackman lends his dulcet tones to Sir Lionel Frost, an investigator of myths and monsters who sets off to prove the existence of the legendary creature Mr. Link (Zach Galifianakis). He is accompanied on his journey by the free-spirited Adelina Fortnight (Zoe Saldana).

This time around, our intrepid hero pets Max, Duke (Eric Stonestreet), Snowball (Kevin Hart), Chloe (Lake Bell), Buddy (Hannibal Buress), and Pops (Dana Carvey) are joined by some new pets voiced by Tiffany Haddish, Nick Kroll, Pete Holmes, and Harrison Ford.

Details are scarce so far about the exact plot, but we do know Veep star Tony Hale and comedy duo Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele are joining the voice cast. We also know the ending is going to hit you right in the heartstrings, so pack the tissues.

This spy comedy features the voice of Will Smith as Lance Sterling, the world's greatest super spy, who teams up with a gadget inventor (Tom Holland) to save the world. Rashida Jones, Karen Gillan, and DJ Khaled also star.

This most recent iteration of the famed franchise stars Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloë Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, Nick Kroll, and Bette Midler as the titular family, whose lives are sent into a tailspin when a greedy reality TV host (Allison Janney) wants to chronicle their unusual lives.
