The expansive universe that first began with The Conjuring [1] back in 2013 is getting even bigger. On Oct. 16, Variety confirmed that a third Annabelle film is on the way [2], which means we have heaps upon heaps of nightmares to look forward to in the future. While The Nun is the latest film to enter the timeline [3], there have been two previous Annabelle movies. And frankly, the second one [4], which showed how the doll came to be possessed in the first place, is pretty good! We can only imagine what kind of horrors the next chapter may hold. Luckily for you, we've tracked down quite a bit of information about the yet-to-be-titled project.
The Story
According to a new report from Variety, we're done looking into the past [6] at Annabelle's freaky origins. Now, it's time to return to the present. As you might recall, the Annabelle doll has been locked away in the Warren artifact room, just like in real life [7]. The new film has Annabelle "awakening the room's evil," which sets its sights on a new target: the Warrens's 10-year-old daughter, Judy. Oh, sh*t!
The Cast
This is super exciting: Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga have signed on to star [8] in the film. It's like we get to spend quality time with our favourite horror mum and dad! Playing the Warrens's daughter Judy is McKenna Grace, who's fresh off the freaky success of The Haunting of Hill House.
The Director
Gary Dauberman wrote the script and will step up to the plate as a director or the first time! But never fear — James Wan, the man who basically dreamed up The Conjuring's ever-expanding universe, is on board to produce. It's in good hands.
The Release Date
It's coming much sooner than you think: it's slated for release in July 2019!
