Before They Take Over Gotham, Meet the Cast of the New Batwoman TV Show

07/06/2019 - 08:00 PM

Since the debut of Arrow back in 2012, the DC superhero universe on The CW has been booming, with five loosely interconnected shows and counting airing on the network. And there's about to be a sixth, with this season's debut of Batwoman [1]. The title character, played by Ruby Rose [2], first appeared in the 2018 Arrowverse crossover event [3], and she's set to lead her own series [4] beginning later this year. Rose will be joined by a top-notch supporting cast packed with industry vets and relative newcomers alike who will flesh out the world of Gotham City. See who's on board to join Batwoman [5] in this latest iteration of Gotham.

Ruby Rose as Kate Kane / Batwoman

Prior to landing the title role on Batwoman [7], Ruby Rose had a varied career, ranging from modelling to video-jockey work in her native Australia and more. Her most notable previous TV credit was in season three of Orange Is the New Black [8], and she has appeared in several action films, including Resident Evil: The Final Chapter and John Wick: Chapter 2.

Meagan Tandy as Sophie Moore

Meagan Tandy, who's set to play a high-level security agent, is no stranger to TV shows aimed at young adults: she was a main cast member on Jane by Design and had a multiseason recurring role on Teen Wolf. Fun fact: she also was a fairly successful pageant queen at one point, competing as Miss California in the 2007 Miss USA pageant and placing as the third runner-up.

Camrus Johnson as Luke Fox

By joining the cast of Batwoman [9] as the son of Lucius Fox (and, in the comics, a future hero himself), Camrus Johnson also joins a small, select group of actors: those who have had roles in both the Marvel universe and the DC universe. He previously had a two-episode arc on Luke Cage and now is set as a series regular on Batwoman. You can also catch him in The Sun Is Also a Star this Summer.

Rachel Skarsten as Alice

As the maniacal, chaos-loving Alice, Rachel Skarsten is set to be one of the show's earliest villains. Skarsten is probably one of the most familiar faces in the cast, having previously played Tamsin on Lost Girl and Queen Elizabeth I in later seasons of Reign. Plus, she's actually been a DC superhero before she took on this baddie role: she played Dinah Lance on the 2002 superhero series Birds of Prey.

Nicole Kang as Mary Hamilton

As Kate's stepsister Mary, Nicole Kang plays the "normal human" role: a young influencer devoted to working with underrepresented communities. Kang is a relative newcomer on the acting scene. Prior to landing the Batwoman [10] role, her only major credit was a main role on the thriller You.

Elizabeth Anweis as Catherine Hamilton-Kane

Elizabeth Anweis, who's set to play Kate's tough, savvy stepmother, is probably one of those faces you definitely recognise but might not be able to place immediately. Her résume is packed with guest spots on shows like Pretty Little Liars [11], Twin Peaks, Grey's Anatomy [12], and more.

Dougrey Scott as Jacob Kane

For fans of a certain age, Scott will always be Ever After's Prince Henry, but he's been working steadily in both film and television for the past couple of decades. He's set to play Jacob Kane, a former military colonel who wants to protect Gotham but harbors a dislike for vigilantism.
