13 Horror-Comedy Movies Streaming on Netflix, in Case You'd Rather Laugh Than Scream

08/10/2018 - 08:30 PM

October is a tough month for those who aren't horror enthusiasts, seeing as there's a spooky movie waiting around practically every corner (er, channel [1]). If you're not into all that gore [2] though, Netflix is here for you. In addition to plenty of straight-up horror flicks, the streaming giant also has a decent selection of horror-comedies in its library [3] for you to check out while you're carving pumpkins or brainstorming your Halloween costume [4]. So, without further ado, keep scrolling to get an equal dose of thrills, chills, and laughs.

Life After Beth

A young man's (Dane DeHaan) deceased girlfriend (Aubrey Plaza) returns from the dead, and he's over the moon about it. That is, until he realises she's not quite the same as she used to be and isn't thrilled with the idea of him moving on with someone new (and alive).

Tucker and Dale vs. Evil

Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine star in this unique spin on the "teens getting killed by psycho hicks in the woods" horror trope. This time around, a group of ignorant teenagers mistake two pals on their backwoods holiday as a pair of murderers, leading to some hilarious (and hilariously grim) mistakes.

Scream 4

The fourth act of the Scream franchise picks up on the 15th anniversary of the original Woodsboro massacre, upon which two girls are butchered. Perennial final girl Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) returns home as a successful self-help author, only to find herself tangled up in the new Ghostface's mission of death along with her cousin Jill (Emma Roberts). If you can withstand the gore — a girl being stabbed to death and then hanged from her living room ceiling, graphic gut wounds, etc. — there are plenty of meta laughs in store.

Piranha

This horror flick about a vicious pack of flesh-eating piranhas that get loose in a lake one Summer has plenty of campiness, which is good since you'd likely be feeling pretty woozy by the time it ends otherwise.

Meet the Blacks

This spoof of The Purge finds a Chicago dad (Mike Epps) trying to keep his family safe over the course of one dangerous night after experiencing a major windfall.

The Voices

Ryan Reynolds [11], Anna Kendrick [12], and Gemma Arterton star in this laugh-out-loud film about a mentally unstable factory worker (Reynolds) whose date with pretty Fiona (Arterton) goes awry when he ends up killing her. (Not really appropriate first date behaviour, ya know?) Fortunately he has the trusty advice of two very important influences in his life to help him sort things out: his cat and his dog, who can both talk.

Holidays

Holidays consists of eight short films dedicated to different holidays, directed by a mix of unknown and established directors (*cough* Kevin Smith *cough*). It's a bit uneven, but it's guaranteed to ruin at least a few of your favourite days of the year . . . in the best way possible.

Halloweed

Stoners, this one's for you! The 2016 flick stars everyone from Simon Rex to Danny Trejo, and follows two brothers as they try to escape the infamy of their father's legacy (he's a notorious serial killer, NBD). Unfortunately their recent move to another town isn't enough to flee their previous reputation, as a new killer is on the hunt.

Yoga Hosers

Kevin Smith's 2016 film is just as crazy as it sounds: two convenience store clerks and yoga enthusiasts (Lily-Rose Depp and Harley Quinn Smith) join forces to take down a group of Nazis who take the form of . . . deadly sausages?

Death Note

The American film adaptation of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's Japanese manga series follows high school student Light Turner (Nat Wolff), who stumbles upon a mysterious, sinister notebook that kills anyone whose name is written inside it. We're not sure if it was intended as a comedy, but there is a lot to laugh at regardless.

Little Evil

A recently married man's (Adam Scott) relationship with his new stepson faces a few hurdles in this horror-comedy when he begins to suspect that the preteen might actually be the antichrist.

Hell and Back

Mila Kunis [19], Bob Odenkirk, and Nick Swardson lend their voices to this animated flick about a group of best friends who have to venture to the underworld after one of them breaks a blood oath and is banished to hell.

Watch it now [20].

The Babysitter

This movie starring Samara Weaving as a killer babysitter preying on the unsuspecting kid she's in charge of is funny and heartfelt, but that doesn't stop the McG-directed horror-comedy from being drenched in blood, as Weaving's pals get rightfully picked off by the clever kid.
