18 SNL Skits That Had Us Cry-Laughing Our Way Through 2018

13/12/2018 - 07:27 PM

If there's one thing we can count on in this crazy world, it's Saturday Night Live [1] making us laugh with an abundance of hysterical sketches. Whether satirizing a political occurrence like the midterm elections or parodying something as simple as a commercial for Nike leggings [2], the SNL crew and their special guests always manage to distract us from real life — if only for an hour and a half each week.

To honour the NBC show and its 43-year history of comedy, we're looking back on the most LOL-worthy skits of 2018. Grab some popcorn, sit back, and watch our 18 favourites ahead (in no particular order, because let's be real — that's way too f*cking hard to decide on).

"Diner Lobster"

Air Date: April 14, 2018

A diner customer played by Pete Davidson surprises everyone by ordering lobster for dinner, and hilarity ensues.

"Kavanaugh Hearing Cold Open"

Air Date: Sept. 29, 2018

Matt Damon [4] could not keep it together while playing Brett Kavanaugh in this 13-minute cold open [5] that will go down in history. The calendar and beer references were aplenty, of course.

Air Date: April 7, 2018

Chadwick Boseman reprises his role as T'Challa from Black Panther [6] to play a few rounds of Black Jeopardy [7] alongside Shanice (Leslie Jones) and Rashad (Chris Redd). We'll take "Aw Hell Naw" for 400, please!

"Weekend Update: Micheal Che's Stepmom"

Air Date: May 12, 2018

Melissa McCarthy makes a surprise appearance [8] to check on her "stepson," Michael Che, making a handful of funny references to his "juicy buns."

"Midterm Ad"

Air Date: Nov. 3, 2018

Various democrats feign their confidence in the midterm election in a commercial-style skit that's sure to make you chuckle.

"Kanye West Donald Trump Cold Open"

Air Date: Oct. 13, 2018

Alec Baldwin [9] suits up as Donald Trump [10] to meet Kanye West [11] (Chris Redd) and Jim Brown (Kenan Thompson) in the Oval Office. This spoof of Kanye's White House visit surely made America great again — momentarily, at least.

"Weekend Update: Stefon on St. Patrick's Day

Air Date: Mar. 17, 2018

This skit has everything: extremely obscure New York City nightclub recommendations, sexy asbestos, breaking character, and even a Call Me By Your Name reference. Would you expect anything less from Stefon?

"Reality Stars"

Air Date: Jan. 27, 2018

Robyn (Cecily Strong) and Dane (Will Ferrell [12]) surprise old friends with their new look after moving to LA. Come for their hilariously chilled-out dog, stay for pretty much every single actor breaking character.

"Mother Knows Best"

Air Date: May 12, 2018

"Tucci Gang"

The SNL crew simply couldn't resist parodying President Trump's emergency alert text message system. Their riff incorporates hysterical text messages that mimic the POTUS's various absurd tweets.

"George W. Bush Returns Cold Open"

Air Date: Jan. 27, 2018

President George W. Bush (Will Ferrell [13]) reminds the nation that the W. in his name stands for "wazzzzap" while speaking from the Oval Office set he had built in his garage. We're still not over how on-point that accent is!

"Nike Women's Ad"

Air Date: April 7, 2018

This painfully accurate sketch [14] introduces Nike Pro-Chiller Leggings, which are "pants, pajamas, and a napkin" all in one. If you live, eat, and breathe (but don't work out) in your leggings, you'll definitely relate to this one.

"The Day You Were Born"

Air Date: May 12, 2018

This Mother's Day skit [15] gives a real-as-f*ck look at the realities of childbirth. The back-and-forth shots between present and past is simply *chef's kiss.*

The long-awaited sequel to the original "Natalie Raps" skit [16], this sequel shows off Natalie Portman [17]'s naughty side.

"Aidy B & Cardi B"

Feeling suddenly empowered by Cardi B's badassery, Aidy Bryant speaks her mind — f-bombs, "okurrr's," and all — in various situations.

"An Extra Christmas Carol"

Air Date: Dec. 8, 2018

Jason Momoa [18] transforms into a stripping Christmas ghost in this funny holiday-themed skit [19]. Need we say more?

"Drag Brunch"

Air Date: April 14, 2018

John Mulaney dons quite the disguise as a drag brunch waitress [20], throwing shade at his patrons and honing in on one customer in particular.
