Black Mirror [1]'s fifth season is on the way, and as is typical for the Netflix sci-fi thriller, we have no idea what to expect . . . er, well, we didn't until we got a look at the new trailer [2]. And the latest batch of photos courtesy of the streaming platform. Now we've been able to piece a teensy bit of the sure-to-be traumatizing puzzle together, from the big stars making up the new cast (Miley Cyrus [3], Anthony Mackie) as well as what stories are headed our way (evil robot dolls, lifelike video games). Take a peek at everything we've gleaned about season five, ahead.
Pom Klementieff (Avengers: Endgame) faces off against an opponent in what looks like the inside of a Mortal Kombat-style video game.
Andrew Scott (Sherlock) can be seen waving a gun and ranting about people being addicted to their phones in the trailer, whereas this photo shows the character in a more relaxed moment in the car. (Though, to be fair, that's his hostage in the backseat.)
Presumably these are the police officers sent to arrest Scott's character to keep him from doing something unhinged.
Angourie Rice (The Nice Guys) will hold down an episode as an outcast at school who finds solace in a doll that has artificial intelligence. Perhaps the episode is titled "Child's Play"?
Anthony Mackie (Avengers: Endgame) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman) have a tense discussion in a still from their episode, which seems to involve some relationship problems for Mackie.
Here the characters are again, only this time it looks like it's a flashback to better times.
