Camilla Luddington Grey's Anatomy Season 15 Interview

Camilla Luddington Dropped All Kinds of Juicy Hints About Grey's Anatomy Season 15

With every passing day, we grow more and more desperate for the 15th season of Grey's Anatomy. And ever since the trailer for the premiere dropped, our need has grown exponentially. Granted, our emotional peril could never be as great as the doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, and between the hot new doctors, that interesting hookup, and all the other relationships, everyone's clearly got their hands full. But, hey, we still have needs, OK?!

Recently, I sat down with Camilla Luddington to discuss her work on the new Rise of the Tomb Raider video game. Naturally, I couldn't help but slip in a few questions about her dearly beloved Grey's character, Jo Wilson, and, boy, did she deliver. Here are all the exciting updates she shared, from the state of affairs with Alex and Jo to the other fresh faces we'll see in season 15.

1. Newly Wedded Bliss

Now that Jo and Alex are officially married, things may just settle down for a little bit. "I think that you will see a very supportive Alex," Luddington revealed. "There's a whole new level to their relationship. There's a lot of mutual respect and he wants her to be the best she can be in her career. And, so, you see husband-material Alex." Aw!

2. The Great Meredith and DeLuca Debate

And now, on to one of the more contentious parts of the season 15 premiere trailer: Meredith and DeLuca's hot and heavy hookup. "Listen, they kissed at the end of last season. I was rooting for them before they even had that weird, awkward kiss," Luddington admitted. "So I'll just say that I'm rooting for them. I think there was definitely some tension there. What you see in the trailer there are the little looks! They're present. I know. But that's what I love about it."

3. Family Matters

Here's an interesting one: we're going to see more of Alex's and even Jo's family in the new bank of episodes. "We're going to see more of Alex's family this year. And so whenever you're introducing in-laws, I think there's always a possibility for drama," Luddington told us. "And I think this may be the season that we actually do meet Jo's family . . . I hear rumours that that might happen at some point." Very coy, indeed.

4. Babies on the Brain?

When talking about Jo and Alex, I couldn't help but note that parenthood might be the next phase in their relationship. While Luddington agreed, she doesn't think it's in the cards anytime soon. "I mean, even before I was a mum, I wanted Jo to have a family with Alex," she said. "I think that they would both like a redo. And I think that they would be really fun parents. I'm actually driving more for them to enjoy being newlyweds before they do the baby thing. I pitched that they get a fish and just see how they do." OK, we'll take a fish. For now.

5. Fresh Faces

We already know that two hot doctors are joining the cast in season 15, but Luddington hinted that we should expect more additions. And not just surgeons! "Lots of other people coming in and out. In the premiere, you're going to meet some patients that stick around for a while, too. Also, I just have to say we have some crazy medical that ends up happening this season early on. We were in table reads and turning the page, and you think it's just sort of a regular patient moment, and then you're like, 'What?'"

6. Lift Pitches

As a fun story to end, Luddington revealed to me that the show's writers sometimes incorporate her ideas into the scripts! She revealed that one pivotal moment in Jo's narrative came directly from her. "One thing I had actually pitched to Krista at the beginning of last season, when Jo and Alex were broken up, is that she ends up sleeping with an intern," she said. "And that it's like this embarrassing mistake and she's trying to do it to get over Alex, and it goes horribly wrong." So that whole tryst with Glasses was originally something Luddington pitched herself!
