Exclusive: Meet Millie Simmonds, the Tenacious Hero of A Quiet Place

Horror may be a slightly tired genre that often relies on tropes and gimmicks, but every once in a while something truly unique comes along. That is absolutely the case with A Quiet Place [1], a postapocalyptic story about sound-sensitive monsters [2] starring Emily Blunt [3] and John Krasinski [4]. In the film, we meet a family that's learned to live in silence. They've all learned fluent American Sign Language to communicate with their deaf daughter, Regan, and that has in turn helped them survive in this bleak new world.

In an exclusive new featurette, director, executive producer, and star Krasinski explains that he always wanted to cast a deaf actress for the role, and Millie Simmonds was the perfect fit because of her phenomenal acting ability. We also get a behind-the-scenes look at the work that went toward including American Sign Language in the film. Check it out, then take some deep breaths: A Quiet Place comes out April 6, and it is a wild ride.
