Looks like the Fast & Furious [1] family just keeps expanding! After some teasing from Vin Diesel [2] about the possibility of new cast members, Universal officially confirmed back in June that John Cena has signed on to star [3] in the next instalment of the long-running series, Fast & Furious 9 (though his specific role is being kept hush-hush). The actor, wrestler, and game-show host will join long-time Furious alums including Diesel, Tyrese Gibson, and Michelle Rodriguez, but he's not the only new face in the mix.

In August, it was announced that Guardians of the Galaxy star Michael Rooker would be coming on board, along with The Fate of the Furious cast members Helen Mirren [4] and Charlize Theron [5]. It was also just announced that Ozuna is getting behind the wheel. Despite previous drama within the cast [6], this is exciting news for the next instalment of the Furious franchise! Filming began in late June, with the film being released (barring any more pushbacks) on May 22, 2020. Cena's role is currently under wraps, but he's apparently meant to play "a badass."

Vin Diesel

The Fast & Furious veteran will reprise his role as Dominic "Dom" Toretto.

Gibson will return to the franchise in the role of Roman Pearce.

Jordana Brewster

Brewster is set to return as Mia Toretto, Dominic's younger sister and the partner of Brian O'Conner (portrayed by the late Paul Walker [7]).

Michelle Rodriguez

After demanding the studio hire a female writer [8] for Furious 9 before agreeing to sign up for the film, the long-time Furious actress will once again portray Letty Ortiz.

Charlize Theron

Theron will be reprising her role as cyberterrorist Cipher. Will she force Dom to turn against his family again?

Helen Mirren

Mirren is also returning as Deckard (Jason Statham) and Owen Shaw's (Luke Evans) mother, Magdalene Shaw. She also appeared in Dwayne Johnson's recent spinoff, Hobbs and Shaw.

Michael Rooker

Guardians of the Galaxy actor Michael Rooker has joined the cast as a character named Buddy, according to Deadline [9]. Nothing else is known about the role, but given the star's ability to shine in ensemble casts (like GOTG and The Walking Dead [10]), we have no doubt Buddy will be memorable.

Ozuna

The 27-year-old Latin singer is the latest star [11] to join the Fast and Furious franchise, though his character still remains a mystery. He is also reportedly in talks to be a part of the movie's soundtrack.

Cardi B

It has been confirmed that Cardi B is joining the cast of Fast & Furious 9 [12] in a yet-to-be-announced role. Vin Diesel spilled the beans on his Instagram account in October [13], posting a video with Cardi B on the final day of filming in the UK.
