After all the hype and countless music video Easter eggs [1], Taylor Swift [2]'s seventh album, Lover [3], is finally here. On Aug. 23, the singer dropped the 18-track LP that's embedded with emotion, romanticism, and . . . Idris Elba — whom she costars with in the upcoming film Cats [4]. (Yes, the 29-year-old singer included a snippet from Elba's interview on The Late Late Show With James Corden [5] at the beginning of "London Boy," though some listeners initially thought it was Swift's beau, Joe Alwyn [6].) With a sunnier sound than 2017's Reputation, Swift embraces her quirks and the waves of romance, while addressing the current social and political climate [7].

"This album is very much a celebration of love, in all its complexity, coziness, and chaos. It's the first album of mine that I've ever owned, and I couldn't be more proud," she wrote on Instagram [8], referencing recent drama [9] surrounding the ownership of her music [10]. Thankfully, we have this album to hold us over while we wait for Swift to rerecord previously released songs [11] to gain full control over her artistry.
