Grey's Anatomy Gay Surgeon Romance Details

The Grey's Anatomy Cast Spills About the "Supersweet" Gay Romance in Season 15

GREY'S ANATOMY -

By now, if you're a Grey's Anatomy fan, you've surely heard about the fresh new doctors joining the show in season 15. One of these two is Niko Kim, played by Alex Landi. Dr. Kim will be the first gay male surgeon to ever appear on the show in 15 seasons, so it's a pretty big deal. And given the fact that he pops up in the trailer for the season premiere, it seems we'll be getting to know him right off the bat.

Since season 15 has been dubbed the "Season of Love" by those involved, I found myself wondering where Dr. Kim would be included in all the romantic coupling that's sure to come in the new episodes. Luckily, I was able to get some pretty exciting hints when I joined the red carpet at THNK 1994's exciting Grey's Anatomy gallery, which paid homage to the show with an exclusive event on Sept. 20. On the red carpet, so many of the stars teased the impending gay romance, and it sounds like we're in for quite the lovey-dovey ride.

James Pickens Jr., who plays Richard, reveals that one of the Grey Sloan "underlings" may find themselves crushing on the gorgeous new surgeon. "He catches the eye of one of the interns, and it'll be interesting to see how it all plays out," he told me. Giacomo Gianniotti also hinted at a rather compromising flirtation — and I'm not just talking about DeLuca's inevitable tryst with Meredith. "There's gonna be a power dynamic," Gianiotti said of Dr. Kim and his mystery man. "Someone might be on a higher level, someone might be on a lower level." Very interesting indeed.

Meanwhile, the Grey's women could not stop gushing about the cuteness of the whole situation. Kim Raver, who is back in action as Teddy Altman, talked about the cast's first exposure to the scripts. "Already at the table reads, we're getting into it. It's just supersweet, and sexy, and amazing, and funny, and awkward. It's everything that new love is. It's gonna be great."

Then there's Caterina Scorsone, who plays Amelia. "It's my favourite story right now," she told me with a huge grin. "We've only been in a couple of read-throughs when it's, like, happening. It's the most adorable thing I've ever seen. So I'm really excited." Is it time to cue the collective "aw" yet? We can't wait to see how things heat up when the show returns on Sept. 27.
