Popsugar Entertainment Hereditary Hereditary Movie Reactions 33 Reactions to Hereditary That'll Either Convince You to See It or Bathe in Holy Water 11 June 2018 by Brinton Parker Image Source: Everett Collection The following contains mild spoilers for Hereditary. I'm a horror movie enthusiast; in fact, I've seen so many scary movies that I thought I'd lost the ability to feel terror anymore. If a real-life serial killer popped up in front of me in a dark hallway, I'd probably shrug and say, "Is that the best you can do?" So, when I started seeing reviews for Hereditary, I figured I'd see it, but chalked most of the impassioned reactions up to marketing. And can you blame me? Nobody can honestly tell me that the "Hereditary Heart Rate Monitor Test" doesn't sound like a Blair Witch Project-level marketing gimmick! Imagine my surprise when I was moved to actual tears within half an hour of the movie and the person behind me in the theatre had screamed out loud thrice before the credits rolled. The movie is a mastery of the horror genre — especially its final few minutes — and fills you with a sense of dread that feels impossible to fully describe without resorting to hyperbole. These visceral reactions from horror fans on Twitter echo my feelings. Reading through these under-280-character reviews will either convince you that you need to see Hereditary ASAP or have you on Amazon buying a nightlight for your bedroom. Don't say I didn't warn you! In short, it's the best horror movie in years. #Hereditary #HereditaryMovie— Agent Maine (@AgentM41n3) June 7, 2018 10 / 33 Here’s how you know HEREDITARY is a great *movie.*At one point a character simply states how they feel about another character and the audience fucking gasped like it was a jump scare. The movie is plenty scary, but as a drama about a crumbling family it’s BRUTAL.— Nat Cassidy (@natcassidy) June 9, 2018 11 / 33 No hesitation whatsoever in saying Hereditary is the best horror film I've seen since Kill List. Jesus wall-scuttling CHRIST.— Robbie Collin (@robbiereviews) June 11, 2018 12 / 33 I thought Hereditary was really excellently performed, but please know that if you're seeing it: it gets rough. Not regular horror rough, grief and emotional trauma realness rough.— Addison Peacock (@Addison_Peacock) June 9, 2018 13 / 33 Yes, Hereditary is an effective horror film. Brilliantly shot and acted. Great pacing. Relentless lack of hope.— James DeAngelis (@jamesdeangeliz) June 11, 2018 14 / 33 After seeing Hereditary, I wonder how some people could go see another installment in the purge franchise and justify that... THAT scene in #Hereditary dropped my jaw for a good 15-seconds. The sort of scene that makes you feel you're in dangerous hands. In particular, the other character's reaction to it is downright harrowing.— John Squires (@FreddyInSpace) June 11, 2018 23 / 33 Clenched my teeth so hard during Hereditary there was blood in my mouth after. So, yah good horror— Devindra Hardawar (@Devindra) June 9, 2018 24 / 33 Hereditary is the horror movie for people who buy their hot sauce at this tiny shop in New Orleans that nobody has ever heard of because habanero sauce is too mild for them. Two thumbs up.— Jason Isbell (@JasonIsbell) June 10, 2018 25 / 33 Ari Aster's HEREDITARY is not only the movie of the year but one of the scariest, most upsetting horror movies ever made--a true freak-out. It's a great debut, novelistic in scope and a polarizing, brilliant, beautiful nightmare. Toni Collette and Alex Wolff are magnificent. pic.twitter.com/NUtMWkgMet— Bret Easton Ellis (@BretEastonEllis) June 10, 2018 26 / 33 Okay, I've seen a lot of horror movies. It’s doing its job. Anyone who tries to tell you any differently just doesn’t want to appear vulnerable or weak.— Matt Neglia (@NextBestPicture) June 8, 2018 32 / 33 Hereditary is the scariest movie I've seen in my life. Near the end I was dreading every scene and wishing it would end, and I mean that in the best way possible.
