Wildcats in the house! Though it's been nearly 15 years since the original movie premiered on Disney Channel, High School Musical [1] is now being rebooted for the small screen. The mockumentary-style TV sequel is called High School Musical: The Musical: The Series [2], and no, we are not kidding. While the series won't premiere until November 2019 on the network's streaming service Disney+, we've already got a trailer [3] and all the details on the new cast. No original cast members [4] are expected to appear in the sequel, but you should expect to see both fresh and familiar faces in this new cast. Joshua Bassett as Ricky
Stuck in the Middle's Joshua Bassett stars in the series as Ricky, a charismatic high school junior who attempts to win his girlfriend Nini back by auditioning for the role of her love interest in the school musical.
Olivia Rodrigo as Nini
Bizaardvark star Olivia Rodrigo [6] costars as Nini, Ricky's ex who just returned from performing arts Summer camp with new confidence and, unfortunately for Ricky, a new boyfriend.
Kate Reinders as Miss Jenn
Best known for her roles on ABC's Work It and Lifetime's Sherri, Kate Reinders plays Miss Jean, the school's unfailingly optimistic new drama teacher who has big dreams and a very small grasp on reality.
Sofia Wylie as Gina
Sofia Wylie [7], who stars as Buffy Driscoll on Andi Mack, appears as Gina, a self-proclaimed "wonderstudy" who has no doubt about her star potential and thinks it's a crime no one else seems to appreciate her talent.
Matt Cornett as E.J.
Best known for his recurring role on Bella and the Bulldogs, Matt Cornett plays Nini's new love interest, E.J., the son of two high-powered corporate attorneys who takes extra to a new level and will stop at nothing to get what he wants — especially when it comes to Nini.
Dara Renee as Kourtney
Dara Renee — who has guest starred on ABC's The Kids Are Alright and who most recently starred in Disney Channel's 2018 Freaky Friday remake — appears as Kourtney, Nini's beauty-loving BFF who works on the costume crew for the musical.
Julia Lester as Ashlyn
Newcomer Julia Lester plays E.J.'s cousin Ashlyn, the new kid in school who's just trying to find her clique and who secretly aspires to become a songwriter.
Frankie A. Rodriguez as Carlos
Frankie A. Rodriguez, who you might recognise as Eduardo from Modern Family, appears as Carlos, the school's colour guard captain, student choreographer, and drinker of way too much coffee.
Larry Saperstein as Big Red
Larry Saperstein, who appeared alongside Kiernan Shipka in Fan Girl, plays Big Red, Ricky's righthand man who considers himself the third wheel to Ricky and Nini's relationship (though he secretly has a big crush on Nini that Ricky can't know about).
Mark St. Cyr as Mr. Mazzara
Mark St. Cyr — who appeared in 2017's Marshall and guest-starred on Chicago P.D. and After After Party — plays Mr. Mazzara, the school's uptight STEM teacher who tends to butt heads with the idealistic Miss Jenn.
