Jordan Peele had already made history just for being the first black nominee for all three of the Oscars biggest categories — best picture, best director, and best original screenplay [7]. Now, he can say he's made history for winning. The Get Out director took home the latter award on Sunday night, making him the first black writer to win in the category.

"I thought it was impossible, that it would never work, that I could never make this movie," he said during his elated speech. "This is to all the people who let me raise my voice and let me make this movie . . . My wife, who supported me through this whole process. My mum who taught me to love in the face of hate. And to everyone who went and saw this movie!"

Suzanne de Passe was the first black nominee in the best original screenplay category for 1972's Lady Sings the Blues, followed by Spike Lee in 1989 for Do the Right Thing, and John Singleton's nomination for the award in 1991 for Boyz n the Hood. Watch Peele make history with his speech above!
