It looks like Joshua Jackson's days on The Affair are numbered. The 40-year-old actor, who plays the role of Cole Lockhart on the Showtime series, will most likely not be returning as a full-time cast member for its fifth and final season, according to Entertainment Tonight. The show's cocreator, Sarah Treem, has reportedly made a plan for Joshua's character to make a one-episode return to wrap up his storyline on the TV drama, but he apparently "left on very distinct terms."
Though the news of Joshua's potential departure may be tragic for dedicated fans of the show, seeing as he was one of the core characters from the start (and because, ya know, the Dawson's Creek alum is pretty easy on the eyes), it's also not entirely surprising. At the end of season four, Cole's wife, Alison Bailey (Ruth Wilson), was abruptly killed off. Shortly after her fatal exit, Ruth Wilson told CBS This Morning that she won't be returning to the show, adding, "I did want to leave, but I'm not allowed to talk about why." We're certainly curious to see if and how Cole's story will come to an end when The Affair returns.
