Selena Gomez [1] and Julia Michaels [2] have teamed up for a deeply personal song. Released on Jan. 24, "Anxiety" is about anxiety's effect on one's social life, emotional well-being, and more. In a post about the song [3], Gomez shared a picture taken shortly after her vulnerable 2017 American Music Awards performance [4] and wrote, "This song is extremely close to my heart as I've experienced anxiety and know a lot of my friends do too. You're never alone if you feel this way."

Gomez has been candid about her experience with anxiety and depression [5] and reportedly sought treatment [6] for the aforementioned in February 2018 and again in October [7] following a panic attack. Since leaving rehab in November [8], Gomez has been spotted skiing with friends [9] and celebrating a friend's bridal shower [10]. She also recently ended her Instagram hiatus [11], which began in September, to share a post about her "year of self-reflection, challenges and growth."

Following her 2016 album, Revival, Gomez released a few singles, including "Fetish" [12] and "Bad Liar," [13] and she recently appeared on the hugely successful song "Taki Taki." [14] When asked about a potential next album, Gomez told POPSUGAR in May 2018 that she's been working on new music [15] but still isn't sure when the "right moment" will be. She added, "It's hard to have a voice and make sure that your content means something."
